Securitas North America Rewards Performance and Heroism with 2016 Security Officer of the Year Awards

PARSIPPANY, N.J., June 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Each year, Securitas North America recognizes two security officers—one for heroism and one for outstanding performance. The winners are chosen based on nominations from their colleagues and managers, and are featured in Excellence in Service, a magazine published for its security officers. Each winner receives monetary consideration and a plaque for being selected as the Officer of the Year.

Jamon Barfield was named Security Officer of the Year for Performance. The award recognizes a security officer who has consistently provided excellent service and outstanding performance. Barfield is assigned to a healthcare provider where he has distinguished himself for the quality of his report writing, conflict management, mediation skills and willingness to mentor others. Last year his vigilance and intervention led to the apprehension of a person in possession of a stolen vehicle.

In addition to recognizing consistent outstanding performance, Securitas also acknowledges the Security Officer of the Year for Heroism— an officer who performs an act that demonstrates courage, daring, professionalism and self-sacrifice while helping to protect people or property. For 2016 that honor was accorded to Olalekan “Felix” Olatundun, who was held at gun point during a robbery at the retail store to which he was assigned in Winnipeg, Canada. Olatundun remained calm and disarmed the suspect while the store’s occupants fled and summoned law enforcement.

“We are honored to recognize the important roles our security officers play in the field every day. The actions of Officers Barfield and Olatundun help us better appreciate the everyday heroes who comprise our 100,000+ Securitas officers in North America,” stated Securitas North America President and CEO Santiago Galaz.
